Generative search visibility
How to respond when AI search describes your business incorrectly
When an AI answer misstates your business, document the error, inspect likely public sources, correct information you control, and use the product’s appropriate feedback channel. Avoid assuming the answer came from one particular page without evidence.

The correction process may differ across products and sources.
Record the exact issue
Note the query, product, date, and false statement. Separate a factual error from an unfavorable opinion.
Check source consistency
Review owned pages and visible cited sources for stale service, contact, or location details.
Correct responsibly
Update accurate public records and submit specific feedback where supported. Monitor without promising a refresh date.
A practical example
A fictional agency is described as offering a retired service. It fixes an old page still linked from its footer and records subsequent observations rather than assuming an instant correction.
A decision checkpoint
Keep error correction factual and specific. A statement such as “the business does not offer that service” is easier to assess than a broad complaint that an answer is unfair. Include the correct owned source where supported, and avoid assuming the error will disappear immediately.
A mistake to avoid
Publishing more contradictory pages can make the underlying information environment less clear.
How to assess the result
Maintain an error-and-correction log with evidence and source updates. Escalate only through legitimate channels.
Put the work in context
Generative engine optimization, or GEO, concerns visibility in AI-generated search answers. For PRSPCT, GEO means generative search, while local SEO refers separately to geographic discovery and business profiles.
Assess each search experience on its own terms. Record the query, product, date, location context where relevant, cited URL, and observed answer. A small manual sample is evidence of that sample, not a universal visibility score.
A common question
Can a business force an AI system to use its preferred description?
No. It can improve accurate sources and report errors, but does not control every generated answer.
